Improving My Garage Door

I have always been one of those people that loves making the front of my home absolutely beautiful, which is one of the reasons that my garage door needed to change. It was old, unsightly, and exceptionally faded. I thought long and hard about how to handle it, and I finally decided that it would make the most sense to go through and completely repaint the entire thing. It was a lot of work, but by the time I was finished, it looked incredible. This blog is all about improving your garage door by adding the right decorative elements and knowing how to match those elements to your home.

Putting Together Your Spring Cleaning List? Put Your Garage On The List

If you are putting together your spring cleaning list now, you should not forget about your garage. There are likely many ways you can improve it, especially if it is not new. Below are two of these ways so you can determine if they are right for you.

Paint the Garage Door

If you have had your garage door for some time you can jazz it up by painting the door. This will make an even bigger difference if the current paint has faded due to the sun. Instead of repainting the garage door the same color, paint it a different color to change the overall look. This can also add curb appeal to your home.

When choosing the color for the garage door consider the color of your home. If you currently have a home that is painted white, choose a neutral color for the door, such as gray or beige. You could also add some color if you want to brighten things up. If you do not want people's attention drawn to the garage, then paint the door the same color as your home.

Some colors you can choose are white, sand, brown, tan, black, evergreen, and blue. If you plan to purchase a new garage door, you can purchase one that has a wood grain finish.

Inspect the Windows

If your garage has windows and they are old, then air is likely getting in and out. This can make things very uncomfortable for you when it is very cold or hot outside. First, check the weather stripping. If it has deteriorated in any way remove the old stripping and replace it with new.

If the windows themselves are old, replace them with new ones. Newer windows are much more energy efficient so if you heat or cool your garage with your HVAC system this can lower your energy bills. Replacing the windows can give your garage an updated look and further increase the curb appeal of your home. Contact a professional to learn about the different types of windows you can choose from.

Besides these two tips, this is a good time to have your garage door maintained by a professional. They can ensure that all moving parts are in good condition and that the door is working properly. They will also check the safety mechanism on the door and can install automation so you can open and close the door automatically if you do not already have this.
